Quinn, Schulz and Shakur started out playing pop-up gigs at Locarno Beach for the love of great music. Our brand of contemporary jazz draws from standards and takes these wonderful compositions a step further: we alter form and feel, bring new ideas and mindsets to the music, and make it our own.

The trio’s repertoire is forever expanding, and includes tunes by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Chet Baker, as well as Miles, Coltrane, Cannonball, and the composers of the Great American Songbook.

Norm Quinn (flugelhorn) is a veteran of the Vancouver jazz scene, educated at Douglas College, Humber College, and Toronto’s New School of Music. He plays with his quintet Q5, BLJQ, the Mud Bay Blues Band, Burning House, and holds down the jazz chair in various community big bands.

Guenter Schulz (guitar) is a master of styles from jazz to country, noise to pop. Educated in Hamburg, Guenter has worked around the world as a guitarist, composer, and producer. He also plays with Lisa Dunn and the tribute band Zappastrophy.

Dave Shakur (bass) drives the bus with solid time and musicality. Dave studied at York University and SFU, and brings a background in jazz, classical, and indie rock, with influences from Mingus to Tina Weymouth. Current projects include the Monk’s Dream Trio and Dark Dials.
